Acheampong Magazine, in 2018, began to honor and celebrate filmmakers and projects with significant African content through its "AREEL," an annual international cinema award.
The AREEL, presented by Acheampong Magazine, is an international annual cinema award aims to honor and celebrate filmmakers and projects with significant African content for their outstanding achievements in the film industry.
The inaugural AREEL took place in September 2019, receiving an impressive 57 entries during the open call. This overwhelming response validated the event's goals, which included hosting screenings and discussions of the selected entries under the banner of "AREEL Shorts & Animation." This pre-event activity aimed to entertain the audience, foster networking, and raise funds to support young talents in launching their filmmaking careers.
To further support the development of young actors' craft and brand, AREEL has established the “Actors Studio” as part of our Creative Spaces, providing selected actors with professional headshots, portraits, and monologues and allowing them to learn, exposing them to the industry world that opens doors to casting opportunities and career growth.
Our creative spaces, “the actor’s studios” have been used to help launch careers and help many young actors secure roles and represent their brand.
Throughout its editions, AREEL have featured outstanding performances by talented casts, including actors such as Michael Ward, Jasmine Jobson, Prince Agortey, Benjamin Sarpong, Anna Roser, Bless Fortune, and Fiifi Neizer. The event has also showcased visionary directors such as Anthony Nti, Tomisin Adepeju, Amartei Arma, Joseph Akwasi, Carl Earl-Ocran, Johannes Krug, Jumic Emmanuel Anderson, Peter Sedufia, and Pascal Aka.
The AREEL seek collaborative support, partnerships and sponsorships to expand our support and celebration of outstanding filmmakers and projects with significant African content. We intend to recruit industry-wide support for this mission.
If you are here, we need your support. You can make an investment in supporting the AREEL, the development of young actors and young talents by kick-starting their careers in filmmaking. Lend us a hand in supporting AREEL on this project for as little as $1. 50
